The Importance of an Emergency Fund

August 16th, 2007 at 01:13 am

Dang it is hot, hot, hot here in Missouri. And of course, nothing like a heat wave to confirm that, yes, that AC isn't cooling like it should. So, the cooling company came out today. 2 parts on the AC were defective, plus the unit had not been cleaned in a very long time. I just bought this place a few months ago, and the house was a rental unit before, so I doubt they took great care of it.

It was expensive to fix. But the sellers paid for a home warranty as part of our contract, so much of the expense will be covered by the warranty. As I was writing the check, I thought about how glad I was that I had the money available to write a check for the service. Sure, I don't want to spend it. But, that's just part of the joys of home ownership, right? It just gives you a certain amount of confidence to know those funds are there. Now I just have to replenish that Emergency Fund.

Thank God you had the warranty. It feels good deosn't? to have the EF that is. Keep doing what you're doing and you'll be fine Smile

I so agree with you about having an emergency fund handy, whether it's paying for an air conditioner getting fixed, car, or injured pets or kids. You are very on target about the feeling of confidence when you tap that EF instead of worrying yourself sick about how to come up with the needed funds or worse yet having to put it on a credit card. Sounds to me like you are doing just fine.

I live in southwest MO and it is just melt into a puddle hot. We have a 18,000 BTU a/c and six fans going but where our house is located, the sun beats down without mercy. We got our polystock tank pool filled up this evening and when it's this hot, the pool is really the only thing that keeps us halfway cool. I can't do any evening cooking when it's like this.
